Banda El Recodo - Costumbres

Take a listen to this beautiful song called "Costumbres". What does it remind you of? Think about that for a second.....lots of instruments...hmmm.
First let me say, this band is called "Banda El Recodo", real name:"Banda Sinaloense El Recodo de Don Cruz Lizarraga"-Definitely a mouthfull, but with much meaning I must say. Why dont we dissect it?
"Banda Sinaloense" (The Sinaloan Band) -Sinaloa is one of the 31 states in Mexico known for the type of music, which is known as "Banda".
Banda, as you will notice right away from hearing this classic song, is brass-instrument based music. Banda music started in Sinaloa way back in the 1930's but got really super popular in the 1990's. Does it kind of sound like German polka music??? It should since thats one of its main influences. Banda is actually a combination of Mexican music and German Polka music. Well, Im sure your thinking, how did that happen?
At one time many German-Americans actually lived in Southern Texas (German immigrants settled in Texas during the mid-19th century) which in turn had a huge influence Mexican music, since they are neighbors of course. And, out of that was created this great music known as Banda!
Hope you enjoyed those interesting tidbits, but what drew me most to this song was that actual meaning of the lyrics. Have you ever been in a relationship or heard of two people who may not be right for each other, yet they continue staying together year after year and they cant seem to let go? Well that is what this song is about, what holds them together. Sometimes after spending so much time with someone, your so used to having them in your life and you miss them so much when they are gone that you simply cannot leave them, even though they may not be right for you. But why is it so hard to leave them? This song talks about how the feeling of missing them, being used to them in your life, or habits can much stronger than even the love itself.

Hence the phrase "No cabe duda que es verdad que la costumbre es mas fuerte que el amor" or "No doubt it is true that the habit Is stronger than the love." Beautiful lyrics for a beautiful song....

Led Zeppelin-D'yer Maker

Well,if you want a feel good song, check D'yer Maker out. Created by the well known English rock band Led Zepplen in 1973, this song was actually thought of as kind of a joke. The name of the song comes from the old english joke: "My wife's gone to the West Indies" "Jamaica?" "No, she went on her own."
Hilarous? Not exactly. Awesome name for this song? Precisely. Not only that, but the song combines a wonderfully mellow beat with a great vocal tune that you cant seem to get out of your head...and you really dont mind.
There are not many songs in which I can hear "Oh, oh, oh, oh , oh" over and over and not get tired of it. Bravo Led Zepplen.

"Want to, Want to Put you ToGeTheR..."

Great Song here by Clinic titled-"The Equalizer"- Very shake your head around and throw your hands up in the air like your on a good one kind of music, which I very much lurve!

Chizzeck out the song Here

The band is actually based in Liverpool, UK. Their Myspace page resembles a very Psychedelic, erie style that somehow draws you in, describing their sound as a " cryptic mix of surf punk with a mutant house beat." This song in particular was featured on the movie "Thirteen" and it was very captivating even as background music.

Fats Domino -Blueberry Hill

Antoine Dominique - "Fats" Domino, hailing from New Orleans was one of the most popular Rock-and-Roll stars of the fifties. Selling an unbelievable 65 million records, Fats was well known for his comfortable piano playing style and easygoing vocals. I personally love his warm smile and cheerful demeanor, especially in the following performance.
Although "Blueberry Hill" might be one of his most remembered hits, Fats accumulated a whopping 35 Top 40 singles, including others like "Ain't that a Shame" , "Blue Monday" and "Walking to New Orleans" just to name a few.
Check out his Bio.
